Former President of Chad sentenced to life imprisonment

A former Military Dictator of Chad, Hissene Habre has been found guilty of crimes he committed during his dictatorial regime in Chad and has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Hissene Habre ruled Chad between 1982-1990, during this period of his reign, 40,000 were killed and many others raped, kidnapped, tortured and imprisoned by his government.

Hissene Habre was tried in Senegal by the Extraordinary African Chambers, a court created by the African Union were he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Some of the victims of Hissene Habre war crimes present at the court sitting were visibly happy for the justice they got after about 25 years of legal battle
